Topic: The Trademark Modernization Act of 2020: What You Need to Know

The Trademark Modernization Act of 2020 (TMA) went into effect on December 18, 2021. Come learn about the rules for Letters of Protest, the new expungement and reexamination procedures, and other updates under the TMA and at the USPTO.

Speakers: Please join us as Parna Mehrbani and Cassandra Mercer present this CLE.

Parna Mehrbani: Parna is a partner at Tonkon Torp with a practice focused on intellectual property, trademark registration and enforcement, and advising and litigating trademark portfolios for local, national, and international companies at all stages of growth. Parna works closely with clients on the development of new brands and lines of business and has particular expertise in the apparel, footwear, consumer products, food and beverage, cannabis, and education services industries. Parna is experienced in a wide array of intellectual property issues including copyright law, right of publicity, trade secret, licensing, false advertising, and intellectual property contracting. She has additional expertise in the use and enforcement of intellectual property online in e-commerce and social media contexts. Parna co-chairs Tonkon Torp’s Information Privacy & Security Practice Group, advising businesses on the management and security of personal data and the laws that regulate the collection, use, and protection of personal data.

Cassandra Mercer: Cassandra Mercer advises clients on a variety of trademark and copyright matters. Her practice includes developing and maintaining trademark portfolios in the U.S. and abroad, trademark clearance for use and registration, prosecution of applications at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, copyright registration and advising, enforcement, licensing and transactional matters. She frequently practices before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
