August 12 Webinar CLE: The Evolving Patent Landscape in the People’s Republic of China

Topic: The Evolving Patent Landscape in the People’s Republic of China

As cross-border innovation intensifies, so do the patent wars that come with it. In today’s global marketplace, patent litigation is often no longer confined to one jurisdiction. Imagine a U.S. company launching a patent infringement action in the U.S. or Europe—only to face swift, strategic countermeasures in China. In this CLE, Dr. James J. Zhu, Ph.D. will share practical insights into how to prepare for retaliatory actions, leverage global IP strategy, and understand the critical differences between Western and Chinese patent landscapes.

Speaker: James J. Zhu, Ph.D.

Dr. James J. Zhu is a partner at JunHe and leads both the firm’s intellectual property group and its Silicon Valley office, working between the U.S. and China. Prior to joining JunHe, Dr. Zhu was a partner at Perkins Coie LLP, where he served as managing partner of its Beijing office. He also co-founded a Silicon Valley startup, GanTech International, and began his career as a researcher at Merck. Dr. Zhu holds a Ph.D. from Caltech and a J.D./MBA from Columbia University.

Dr. Zhu is a registered U.S. patent attorney and licensed California attorney, fluent in both English and Chinese. A frequent speaker and author on IP topics, he has been recognized by BusinessWeek as one of the most influential “sea turtles”—U.S.-educated professionals shaping the Sino-American business landscape. With a practice focused on patent procurement, strategy, litigation, and licensing—particularly in life sciences, materials science, medical devices, and electronics—Dr. Zhu brings a deep technical and legal background to global IP matters.
